Who Is Marla Hunter [Hooper]?

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

– Nelson Mandela

I am an education consultant and instructional designer with more than two decades of experience in teaching, coaching, curriculum design, and organizational learning. My work is grounded in a belief that learning should be equitable, relevant, and connected to real-world needs — whether that’s for students, educators, or leadership teams.

My career began in K–12 classrooms and expanded into higher education and international school communities. Along the way, I supported educators, leaders, and organizations in strengthening learning systems, designing meaningful experiences, and navigating complex change.

Today, I work full-time, partnering with schools and organizations across the U.S. and internationally. I help teams identify gaps, clarify priorities, and design learning and strategy that supports growth, equity, and sustained impact.

I bring a global lens, a systems mindset, and a belief in collaborative problem-solving to each engagement.

My Work & Professional Journey

My work is rooted in over a decade of experience across classrooms, higher education, and international school communities. I began my career as a classroom educator and later served in higher education, supporting the preparation and development of educators and school leaders.

Over time, my work expanded beyond individual classrooms into systems-level consulting. Today, I work full-time as an education consultant and instructional designer, partnering with schools and organizations to examine culture, learning design, and institutional practice with clarity and intention.

How I Approach Teaching, Learning, and Change

I believe learning is most effective when it is relevant, reflective, and grounded in real-world application. Whether working with educators, leaders, or organizational teams, I design learning experiences that honor lived experience, encourage critical reflection, and support meaningful action.

My approach centers adult learning principles, culturally responsive practice, and sustainable implementation. I am less interested in one-time initiatives and more focused on helping organizations build structures that support long-term growth and alignment.

Global Perspective & Cross-Cultural Work

My work spans U.S. and international contexts, including collaborations with international schools, global education organizations, and diverse professional communities. Working across cultural, linguistic, and regional contexts has shaped my approach to consulting, particularly in areas of equity, belonging, and organizational culture.

I bring a global lens to my work, supporting institutions as they navigate complexity, difference, and shared responsibility within diverse communities.

What I Do Now

I currently work full-time as an education consultant and instructional designer. My work includes:

  • Instructional design for adult and Pre-K–12 learning

  • Professional learning and leadership development

  • Curriculum and program audits

  • Equity, belonging, and DEIB consulting

  • Strategic planning and facilitation

I partner with schools, educational organizations, and mission-aligned companies seeking thoughtful, practical approaches to learning and organizational change.

Impact-Driven Work

Across my work, I support organizations in moving from intention to action. This includes clarifying priorities, designing learning experiences that resonate with participants, and facilitating conversations that lead to meaningful shifts in practice.

My goal is not to prescribe solutions, but to help organizations see more clearly, act more intentionally, and build capacity for sustained growth.

Let’s Work Together
